Why horses

  • Horses live in herds in which there is consistent and trustworthy leadership - and have flexible hierarchies which adapt to external circumstances, moment by moment.
  • They are acutely attuned to those around them - enabling them to discern between threat and opportunity.
  • They notice and respond to our 'inner story' rather than the masks we wear. When they 'mirror' us we can understand and alter our impact and influence on others.
  • They help us connect with our emotional intelligence and intuition by responding to our innermost emotions and intuition, that our past conditioning has taught us to over-ride.
  • They are experts at non-verbal communication and help us hone our subtle communication skills.

We see time and again how horses will cut through layers of assumptions, habits, theories and psychobabble to get to the heart of issues that individuals, teams and organisations are facing - and then they help us to work through them with grace, patience and non-judgement. These are the gifts of equine assisted development.

"There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man."
- Winston Churchill
